Sneak Peek: 5 A.M, 6th Sep 1965

S

It is always so absurd and depressing to see general public awkwardly ignorant of the history of Pakistan, and the importance of national days we celebrate each year. You can substantiate this if you want, as i have witnessed multiple times.

Hang on ! let me tell you how to corroborate. Where ever you are right now, while reading this post.. freeze.. just ask the any one of the following questions related to 6th of September to the very next person sitting or standing besides you ;

  1. why are we celebrating 6th Sep?
  2. why it is a defense day?
  3. what was the year back then?
  4. what actually happened?

You will be amazed to see the responses, especially if you are standing in a market place, or traveling in a public transport, (if by any chance ,you, yourself know the history of this day 😁). And on top of that, when it comes to the public figures, celebrities, and parliamentarians, then believe me ask at your own risk , otherwise it will be a grave encounter . The responses will surely make you hysteric. We often witness such viral videos on social networking sites too. People hardly can explain even 14th of August more than one recital line. So the point is ;

Herein lies a big fundamental check on our sincerity and loyalty to the country. Rhyming National songs, and swaying National Flags are of no use to the country and the nation as a whole, unless it comes off with a heart and mind stuffed with the knowledge of past, and with a reasonable justification of our bragging. At least, we should be aware of what we are doing. Otherwise an edifice without solid groundings does not sustain long enough to become an antique.

Here i am writing a skimmed version of historical perspective . Please continue reading till the end of the post……(phir na kehna k kisi ny btaya nahin 🤗)

we celebrate 6th of September to commemorate Pakistan’s finest hour. when on this day in 1965, India launched a surprise attack on Pakistan across the International border, without any prior warning or a declaration of war. It was a vivid violation of International Law and Charter of Unites Nations. Indian forces advanced towards Lahore on two axis. Pakistani Army on the ground and Pakistani Air force were able to held back the Indian offensive march. This was a classics example of Pakistan’s prompt defensive as well as offensive response. On the second day, Pakistan was run short of ammunition and the Pakistani Army was not even outnumbered then Indian army .Still they were able to hold them back. But on the 8th September, India attacked from Sialkot with armored divisions and strike formations , ensuing causalities from both sides. The sensational battle remain continued over many days and nights when finally India’s armored divisions had to move backward. Pakistan in the meantime launched a counter strike from south of Lahore and entered into the Indian territory.

In the Defense Journal it was published that during the operation, India captured around 400 square miles of Pakistan’s territory and in turn lost around 1600 square miles of its own territory to Pakistan . The war finally ended after heavy loss of men and material by the mediation of USSR and a cease fire took place. A pact was signed among the two nations with the title of “Tashkent Agreement”in 1966. Which compelled the two nations to abide by their previous treaty obligations and to give away their captured regions and return to 1949 ceasefire line in Kashmir. (Bajwa, Farooq. From Kutch to Tashkent: The Indo-Pakistan War of 1965 )

This war was actually the repercussion of “Operation Gibralter”, that was designed to infiltrate mujaheddin in Jammu and Kashmir to spark revolt against India. This war was followed by two more battles ;

– the Indo-Pak war of 1971 (Bangladesh Liberation war), though it was a political battle without involving Kashmir, and

– Indo-Pak war of 1999 (the Kargil war) apparently a misadventure by Pakistan

Akin to 6th September, 7th September is celebrated as “Air Force Day”, as in 1965 war, Pakistan’s Air Force did a great contribution, the most notable one was of Pakistan Air Force flying ace who shot down five Indian Air Force fighter jets in less than a minute. Third Force i.e. Navy, celebrates “Navy Day” on 8th Sep in commemoration of their contribution in war of 1965.

Ok ..I got it, post is getting longer…. That’s fair enough to digest. ….

میرے وطن میرے بس میں ہو تو تیری حفاظت کرو میں ایسے

خزاں سے تجھ کو بچا کے رکھوں بہار تجھ پے نثار کر دوں

Know your country and Be loyal to it……
